July 2010 Chapter Meeting

Top 10 Challenges in the remodeling industry -
Best Practices for a fully Integrated construction process

Wednesday, July 14, 2010 – 6:00 to 8:30 pm

At DJ Mehler Collections
165 Rhode Island
San Francisco, CA 94103       Directions

This panel discussion will focus on the communications and facilitation challenges that every remodeler faces today. Change is constant, but rarely convenient. Many remodelers spend too much time putting out fires and not enough time devising solutions to insulate their companies from getting burned. The best time to form a line of defense against uncertainty is before it has happened.

Following are some of the questions that will be answered in this frank and honest presentation about the obstacles present in many projects.

  • What questions do you ask before beginning?
  • What is a fully integrated construction process?
  • What are the implications of the shift in responsibilities from architect/designer to contractor and to the homeowner?
  • How do you collaborate with all parties and who facilitates the communication?
  • How do you manage homeowners who fancy themselves experts on products and design, thanks in part to the Internet and home improvement shows on television?
  • When is it time to involve a technical expert or outside facilitator?
  • How do you tell the owner the truth and educate them?
  • How do you avoid adversarial relationships with architects and designers?

Each step of a remodeling project’s work flow carries the possibility of an unpredictable outcome. You will leave this seminar with the tools to create good outcomes in your future projects.

Panelists:
Jeff Rexford – Bashland Construction
Linda Herman – Linda Herman Consulting
Susan Schindler – Homeowner currently remodeling in SF
Andrew Morrall – Architect

Please join your NARI colleagues for this informative, insightful event.
